EA/Mythic WAR Getting Desperate?

To be fair, it makes good sense to do what they’re doing, but I’m not sure it will work. Here’s part of an email they sent me (they neglected me on Valentines Day):

Sindaena of Destruction

You are ordered by Tchar’zanek himself to return to the front lines! As a loyal soldier in the armies of Destruction, your strength is needed once again! There is no time for rest at rank 23. Speed your journey to the campaign with increased experience in Tier 3. Your friends Zech, Dalayxia and Silvarn are still in the battle! Rise now, and bear the standard of Casualties of WAR to the very heart of Altdorf! To arms, and to glory!

Despite the fact that several co-workers are playing, some real life friends are playing and Casualties of War are still playing, I’m not going back.

Due to the present state of the economy (that’s becoming cliché), I’m being more selective about my purchases. A lot of the typical bonuses I get from work have been cut in order to reduce costs. I’m glad they did, I’d prefer that over more lay offs. But still, I don’t feel any desire to waste my money. And that’s what subscribing to WAR would be for me.

I understand people like it, they’re having fun, it’s been patched and it’s more stable. That’s cool. I respect that, but the game isn’t for me.

“Because you’re a carebear!”

Nope. I’ve spent more time on WoW open PVP servers than PVE servers. I can PVP with most of them. It’s not my current focus (if you look at my Kills statistics you’ll see I currently have one lonely honorable kill), but it will soon be something I’ll do.

I’m not ditching WAR only, I’ve unsubscribed from Wizard 101 despite actually liking the game and having had a good experience with their product. I unsubscribed because my oldest wasn’t playing it anymore. He was my main motivation for playing it. My youngest plays it from time to time, but his idea of playing it is making a new wizard then playing hide and seek in the game. You should hear him laugh when I find him. :)

I’m sticking with WoW. It’s my main focus and I’m not deviating. I’m even surprised I’ve been as focused as I have been. Usually I’d have a bunch of alts that aren’t too far behind in levels but the highest alt (aside from the level 59 DK that is parked in Stormwind who plays the auction house for my main) is a level 16 Dwarf Hunter who I haven’t touched in months.

I decided I didn’t really like being a Dwarf so I went with a Night Elf (female) Hunter. Personally, I prefer the Horde races for the Hunter class, but I settled on the Night Elf because I thought it’d be fun to have a stealth cat and hide, then pounce on people. She’s level 1 and named “Sindaena”. I’ve also got a Gnome Mage (Melkorandis) that is level 1 – when I log him in, I’ll get the intro movie for Dwarves and Gnomes. Yup, that’s right, I created him and didn’t so much as log in with him. I also have a Night Elf Durid :) that is level two but I don’t think I’ll do much with her. I’m just not into Durids.

I’ll admit, added bonus of going with a Night Elf is that Hud hates Night Elf Hunters… he has a general loathing for Hunters, but Night Elves seem to be at the top of his threat list.

  1. “Durid?” Yep, WoW is definitely influencing you… at least general chat is! LOL

Make sure your Nelf Hunter also does the mailbox stripper dance for Hud, I’m sure he appreciates that too…

  2. Rolling an NE for reasons of Spite? That’s too funny. I wanted to try out WAR but just never found the interest and the cash together at the same time.
I was never really much into PVP either. I mean yeah it’s more challenging to fight another player than to fight the machine, but having to deal with constant the constant e-peen skirmishes isn’t really something I find enjoyable. But maybe it’s because all of my toons are gals. :D
Really until I’d made Geistig my original Death Knight I’d had a hard time devoting all of my attention to one character and one class.

  3. Hehe There were a bunch of pictures describing the evolution of Mages (over various patches) and one of them had something about a “Durid”. I said, “From now on, Druids will be known as Durids. Make it so.” and a few people have picked that up. Recently there was a thread with several posts from a Durid talking to a Rouge :) about misspelling Druid.

You had to be there. :|

Ooooh, I will do what I can for the stripper NE! I might try to make an animated GIF for my forum avatar.

Yup, I like to tease Hud (and other authority figures) as much as possible. It’s good for them if it’s done in a respectful manner. i.e. /tell Vahmir Dude… those greaves make your ass look fat! ;)

Oddly enough, I’ve always favored the Hunter class, but when I got to Rexxar, I just couldn’t stick with it. I still can’t… I’m just having too much fun with Lannister.

  4. “/tell Dude… those greaves make your ass look fat!” That’s just too funny!
When I first got Shadow Form I loved teasing my leveling buddy, “Hey does this cloak match?” *pops shadow form* … *giggle for an hour* and repeat.
Your having fun with Lannister really comes across too. When I enjoy my class I’m more fun to play around. I don’t feel self conscious and I don’t feel like I’m playing a class just because that’s the class that’s needed.
It’s so good to be back to playing a DK. I fell in love with that class. I rolled one the day WotLK was released, right after I installed the expansion. None of the classes I’ve played so far make as much sense or are as rewarding to me. I love the sounds, animations, and even working around the runes.
Durid, is that anything like Durian? You know the fruit that smells like feet?

  5. It’s a whole other class of Druid. Sort of like Rouge to Rogue. :)

  6. I went back for about 3 hours before their typical “lets release a class you have to level through 40 levels of crap with from level 1″ extra content was released. I lasted 45 minutes. No scenario pops and no life in the newbie areas just as I figured.

I hear the raid content is still bugged, people exploit bosses and that the lag is still garbage. This from officers in CoW so I hear things. I guess its a shame that Blizzard tests their games and releases well coded content but hey what would I know apparently I am a lemming for games that function properly.

I also hear that people are grinding for wards and such before they can raid for more gear and get ready for the RVR cotnent. That sounds familiar. Pot meet kettle, kettle meet pot.

I think that if I hit refresh on the Darkfall site I might get the privilege of trying that awesome game once I can sign up for an account.

  7. Sadly, that was the case with DAoC as well. I can remember going back a year or more after release (I think ToA had been out for awhile) and I was blown away by how empty the lower level areas were.

    Empty.

It was just me and the mobs.
