Level of Security…

President Obama is coming to Ottawa (where I live) today. It’s pretty exciting and pretty scary at the same time. All that got me thinking about how different Canada is from the United States.

You see, our leader (sort of) doesn’t require as much security as President Obama. You’ll actually see him sitting down in the common seats to watch a hockey game. It’s not that uncommon a thing either.

I wonder why that is?

  1. There are two reasons:

First, it’s because we’re not a nation filled with undereducated, flaming racists caught in the 19th century and religious fundamentalists who want to return us to the grand olde days of the 14th century.

Second, it’s because Canadians really couldn’t give a . We kvetch and moan about the government, but as long as the gov is mostly leaving us alone, we don’t go all stupid about it.

  2. So you’re worried about swearing in my comments section but don’t mind generalizing that Americans are ignorant, racist, zealots? ๐Ÿ˜‰

On the other hand, you suggest we’re indifferent whiners. ๐Ÿ˜€

    Old fart!

  3. It could be no one really cares about Canada or its PM. I don’t say that in a mean way, but as far as visibility on the world stage (good or bad) there really isn’t a comparison.

  4. I didn’t say all americans are like that, but you don’t have to dig very deep to find plenty that are. Just follow the confederate flags, or turn on the televangelists on Sunday morning.
