Heroic Nerfs Round 2… Still Tweaking

Here’s a list of dungeon changes coming in patch 4.0.6 – you’ll notice most of them are making dungeons/heroics easier.

Blackrock Caverns

  • Beauty now spawns with only two pups in Heroic difficulty. Not to worry though, the missing pup has been adopted by a wonderful, if not insane family. (/bonk This was needed as not every group ends up with sufficient CC load out to handle three adds (for example I ran through there with two paladins, a druid and two DKs) though most I’ve been involved with handled two and I just tanked one and Beauty)

Grim Batol

  • Faceless Corruptors now move 10% more slowly. (This makes it easier. I can understand how it’s hard if you’re missing classes capable of slowing mobs.)
  • Players may still use spell and abilities while afflicted by Forgemaster Throngus’s Impaling Slam. (meh)
  • Valiona’s Devouring Flame damage has been reduced by 20%. (meh – it’s up to the range folk to not spread out so much and stay as close to the drake as possible which limits the distance to run to get out of it)

Halls of Origination

  • The duration of the Flame Wardens’ Raging Inferno has been reduced by 80%. (Um… wow? I didn’t realize people had a problem with this?)
  • Anraphet’s Nemesis Strike now does 75% of weapon damage, up from 50%. In addition, the damage-over-time effect applied by this ability does 15,000 damage every 2 seconds, up from 9,000. (Okay, this isn’t a nerf!)
  • Earthrager Ptah’s Flame Bolt now deals more damage per second on Heroic difficulty. (Neither is this one)
  • Setesh seeks a portal every 25 seconds, up from 20. (This is a nerf, though it can get pretty damn crazy with adds if you’re just burning the portals/boss)

Lost City of the Tol’vir

  • Lockmaw no longer tolerates fighting in his treasure room. (I guess people did this? Didn’t seem too tough.)

Shadowfang Keep

  • Baron Ashbury
    • Sadly, in his hubris he has forgotten how to Mend Rotten Flesh. (Nerf? Guess this one required too many people to have interrupts)
  • Lord Walden
    • Conjure Poisonous Mixture now deals more initial damage. (Ow)
    • Frost Mixture is now area-of-effect damage. (Ow?)
    • Toxic Catalyst now deals less damage over time. (Nerf)

The Stonecore

  • Stonecore Earthshapers’ Dust Storm does slightly less damage. (meh)
  • Corborus
    • The warning time for Thrashing Charge has been increased by 1 second. In addition, Thrashing Charge now happens 4 times, down from 5. (Nerf)
    • The visual for Rock Borers spawning during the submersion phase is now different from the Thrashing Charge visual. (Makes life a little easier, but doesn’t really affect any numbers so.. improvement)
  • High Priestess Azil
    • She grew! She’s now 175% the size of a human, up from 125%. (Didn’t know she was larger to begin with? Easier to pick out in a crowd)
    • Gravity Wells should kill Devout Followers more quickly. (Sort of a nerf)
    • The cast time of Force Grip is now 1.5 seconds, up from 1. (Nerf – slightly more time to get an interrupt off)
    • The size of the warning visual for Seismic Shard has been increased to more accurately reflect the area it affects. (Improvement)
  • Slabhide
    • The ground phase lasts longer and has fewer stalactites. (meh, this wasn’t really an issue though it could be seen as making it tougher since you’re going to have fewer to hide behind – not sure if this is a nerf or making life harder)
  • Ozruk
    • There is now a precast visual on the ground to make it clear how far away a player must get to be clear of Shatter. (heh. It’s an improvement that makes it easier)
    • The cast time of Shatter has been increased to 3 seconds, up from 2.5. (Nerf.)
    • Shatter damage is now reduced by armor, but has been increased by 33.3% (repeating, of course) as a result. (Hmmm. Sort of a nerf. It’s mostly an issue for melees/tanks and was pretty much a one shot – now it does seem like it will be)
  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed a bug that made Ozruk’s Shatter knockback component 10-yard range while the damage had a 15-yard range. Both are 15 yards now. (fun!)

Throne of the Tides

  • The damage done by Lady Naz’jatar’s Shock Blast and Naz’jar Tempest Witch Chain Lightning has been reduced. (Nerf. Turn Tempests away from group – solved)
  • Tainted Sentries Swell damage has been reduced. (Nerf)
  • The damage of Blight of Ozumat has been reduced by 25% per stack. (Nerf – but I think it was needed.)

The Vortex Pinnacle

  • Creatures
    • Desperate Speed cast by Temple Adepts has had its duration reduced significantly. (Nerf)
  • Altairus
    • The visual effects in this encounter have been adjusted to make the wind direction easier to read. (Thank you! I could never tell which way was which)
    • Cyclones now knock players straight up, and players hit by a cyclone cannot be hit again for a few seconds. (Nerf)
  • Asaad
    • Skyfall Stars are now summoned to help him defeat players. (Uh oh. Not a nerf, but needed – this boss was pretty easy for being the last one in the dungeon)
    • Static Cling has had its cast time increased to 1.25 seconds, up from 1. (Nerf)
  • Grand Vizier Ertan
    • His health has been reduced slightly. (Nerf)
    • He now knocks away players standing too close to him when he retracts his Cyclone Shield, which now inflicts Nature damage if it touches players. (Not entirely a bad thing. It seemed like this ability was mostly useless.)
  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed a bug that made Ozruk’s Shatter knockback component 10-yard range while the damage had a 15-yard range. Both are 15 yards now. (Buff the patch note guy because his Copy/Paste skills fail)

Overall, some improvements that make the fights easier to handle without changing the mechanics, some tweaks up in difficulty and also some tweaks to make the Heroics more forgivable or require less specific things (in terms of interrupts and CC types).

Just a reminder, these changes are not on the live servers, these are just on test.

Also, Blizzard needs to include me in future betas so this stuff doesn’t get lost on other ‘beta testers’… who we know just wanted to play the expansion before others, learn all the secrets and not actually provide any useful feedback.

  1. Really? I tried access the SW:ToR beta from there and couldn’t find it. 😦


    Patch testing is a bit different from testing product before it’s out the door… then requires patching. hehe

    Some of the issues they’re changing should have been pretty obvious from beta feedback so either the beta testers didn’t submit it (because they were too busy recording videos, writing up spoilers so their guild could get ahead or ZOMGing over being the beta) or Blizzard decided it could wait until after release (which is possible).

    I still reserve the right to shake a fist at beta testers though.

    Hehe this is a good thing. I’ve been in groups where people would allow both of these to become enraged/empowered/whatever and they would put enough AE dmg out to overcome the healer in a matter of seconds.

    Maybe it was because of crappy players or maybe it was because of the group composition – either way it’s lead to group breakups at the first set of mobs which sucked after waiting 45 minutes for a group.
